Located in Mexico Beach, Florida, the 26th Street Residence is conceived as a contemporary coastal retreat designed to accommodate large family gatherings and weekends at the beach. The program combines four bedrooms and an additional bunk room with a series of shared living, recreation, and outdoor spaces centered on entertaining and time together.

The organization of the home responds directly to its coastal setting. Primary living spaces are positioned to take advantage of views toward the Gulf, with large expanses of glazing and high transom windows extending sightlines while bringing natural light deep into the interior. Covered porches expand the living areas beyond the building envelope, while a secondary living and game room and private pool provide additional spaces for recreation and gathering.

The architectural expression is defined by a series of sloping roof planes, deep overhangs, and exposed angled columns that establish a strong structural rhythm along the exterior. Rather than functioning solely as an exterior gesture, the roof geometry is carried through to the interior, where sloped ceilings shape the primary living spaces and reinforce the relationship between interior volume and exterior form.

A restrained material palette further articulates the composition. White horizontal siding is contrasted with dark vertical volumes, emphasizing the massing of the residence and providing a backdrop for the exposed structural elements. Warm wood soffits extend beneath the broad roof planes and continue into the interior, creating visual continuity between the covered outdoor spaces and the main living areas.

Throughout the residence, architectural details reinforce this relationship between form, structure, and material. At the central stair, angular wall planes and integrated linear lighting reinterpret the geometry of the exterior structure as an interior focal point.

The result is a modern coastal residence shaped by its Gulf setting and the way the family intends to use it, with architecture, structure, and interior volume working together to support gathering, recreation, and indoor-outdoor living.
